EXERCISE INSTEAD OF TUMMY TUCK MALAYSIA?
Unfortunately, this doesn’t always prove successful enough to give you a firm, flat torso. When the skin and abdominal muscles become severely stretched due to weight gain and loss, pregnancy, or ageing, plastic surgery is often the only method of correction. Tummy tuck surgery removes excess skin which cannot be achieved by diet. This surgery also repairs separated muscles, which exercises such as crunches and sit-ups cannot do.
SHOULD I LOOSE WEIGHT BEFORE SURGERY?
This depends on whether you are overweight. You can still have the surgery if you are overweight. However, a tummy tuck is not appropriate for obese or very overweight patients. The best candidates are those who are at a healthy, stable weight. If you are very overweight, your surgeon may recommend diet and exercise prior to undergoing surgery.
WHAT ABOUT COMBINING TUMMY TUCK WITH OTHER PROCEDURES?
This is a popular option as our surgeons specialize in multiple procedures. While a tummy tuck will tighten the skin and underlying muscles of the abdomen, it does not remove unwanted fat in the surrounding area such as the waist and hips. This is best treated with liposuction, which is often combined with a tummy tuck for optimal results.
Other popular options combine procedures such as breast augmentation, breast lift or facial surgery with a tummy tuck to gain multiple improvements with a single surgery.
CAN I STILL GET PREGNANT AFTER MY TUMMY TUCK?
You can still become pregnant but this may cause you to lose some of the benefits of your surgery; however, having children after a tummy tuck will not affect your pregnancy in any way.
WHAT WILL THE SCAR BE LIKE?
Normally tummy tuck Malaysia surgery results in a horizontal scar across the lower abdomen, well below the belly button. The scar can be easily hidden under a bikini, underwear, or other clothing. This scar will fade with time but scars can also be minimized with the use of special silicone creams or strips during the healing process. You will be advised about this option after your surgery.
TUMMY TUCK SURGERY RISKS?
Our surgeons have performed this surgery hundreds of times successfully on men and women seeking a better body contour. However, any surgical procedure comes with inherent risks, such as the effects of anaesthesia, blood clots, swelling, infection, bleeding, and discomfort. These and other complications rarely occur and can usually be avoided. Your plastic surgeon will discuss the risks with you thoroughly during your consultation and you should carefully follow your doctor’s pre-operative and post-operative instructions.
Risks can be minimized by following a healthy lifestyle and not smoking. Smoking causes the blood vessels to constrict reducing the blood supply and the oxygen supply to the tissues. Your body needs this blood supply and the oxygen in order to heal. A restricted blood supply to the tissues slows healing time. Doctors have different opinions about when patients should stop smoking before and after surgery but a minimum of 3 weeks before and after is desirable.
ARE THE RESULTS LONG LASTING?
Tummy Tuck surgery is usually a one-time procedure with very long-lasting results. Weight gain and ageing can all contribute to changes in your surgical outcome. Typically, however, as long as you maintain a healthy weight and fitness program, you can enjoy a trim, toned figure indefinitely.
HOW LONG WILL RECOVERY TAKE?
The length of time it takes to recuperate after a tummy tuck may vary depending on your individual health. Heavy lifting or any other vigorous activity, which would strain the abdominal muscles, may be restricted initially. A light exercise program will help you heal better and can help avoid medical complications such as excess swelling and blood clotting.
GENERAL RECOVERY
Recovery from a Tummy Tuck is a balance of the need to get your body going versus the need to keep things quiet until your body has had a chance to heal well.
During the first three days
Following Tummy Tuck Surgery, you will be in the hospital.
The first day
After your surgery, you will be in bed resting but by the end of the second day, you should be out of bed and able to walk to the bathroom etc.
All tummy tucks surgery patients will have drains put in to collect fluid. Without the drains, the fluid would stay in the wound area and cause excessive swelling.
Following surgery, it is normal to have pain and discomfort. You will be given pain medication and a pain pump to help you to get rest and speed up your recovery.
The drains and pain pump will be removed before you leave the hospital but you will be given medication to take away with you to control pain if needed.
During these first five days
You should minimize your activity as too much movement can cause the skin layer to slide against the muscle layer so the two tissues cannot knit together. This results in fluid collections and swelling. Some swelling will occur regardless of your activity level but this will gradually reduce as healing progresses.
Follow a normal diet and drink lots of water in the first few days.
Make sure you wear your compression garment day and night to help diminish swelling and prevent fluid accumulation. This is particularly important in the first few days and weeks after your surgery as it helps you heal faster with a smoother final result.
The compression garment should be of the type recommended by your surgeon and should be fitted according to your pre-surgery measurements.
During the first two weeks
After surgery, you should not overdo it.
By the third week you should be well on the way to recovery but refrain from long days out as much as possible Do not lift anything heavier than 3 litres of water. Do not drive if you still need to take painkillers.
You may want to return to work if you have an office job or similar type of work.
You can leave your compression garment off half the time if you want to but most patients say they feel more comfortable when they keep it on.
During the fourth-week Post-Op
You may feel a hardness along your wound. This is normal. It is a healing ridge which forms to knit the wound together. It will gradually disappear over the next few weeks. You will also still have some swelling and there will be some areas which are numb. The feeling will gradually return to normal but it may take a few months.
Five to Six weeks after Surgery
You can resume normal activities. There may still be some swelling but your new body profile should be obvious.
